Authentic Egyptian Hand Painted Papyrus:
The ancient peoples of Egypt made good use of their natural resources. The papyrus plant that grew along the banks of the Nile River was used to make baskets, sandals, boats, and most importantly paper on which to record important and sacred documents. The process involved harvesting, stripping, pressing the stalks into a criss cross formation, and drying in the hot desert sun. Today the process continues in the same tradition. Papyrus is 100% organic and is a protected industry in Egypt.

The creative use of embossed plaster on aged papyrus gives these authentic reproductions of Egyptian tomb wall paintings the appearance of low relief carvings. | Weighing of the heart (Judgement Day). Ancient Egyptians believed in life after life. The weighing of the deceased person's heart on a scale balanced against Maat (Neter of Truth and Justice) represented as a single feather, proved indisputably the true nature of a person's heart during their lifetime. As the deceased looks on, the plummet of the scale is carefully adjusted by Anpu (Anubis), the jackal-headed Neter of embalming. The human headed bird represents the Ba or soul of the deceased, while Tehuti (Thoth), the ibis headed scribe, carefully records the deeds of the deceased. Seated above in single file, is the jury of the Neter world to judge the delicate balance of the person's heart against their lifetime's deeds. If the heart proves to be unworthy, heavier on the scale than the feather of Maat, it will be devoured by the beast Ammit- part crocodile, part lion and part hippopotamus- and the person will lose their eternity in the afterlife. If the heart is evenly balanced against Maat, the person will live on eternally in the Neter world "Amenti" (the hidden place). The original comes from the papyrus of Hunnefer in the British Museum. Available in three sizes, with an unpainted background, or with a black background. |
