Lotus Blossom in relief. The Lotus blossom goes back to the creation mysteries in ancient egypt when Nefertum rose out of the primordial ocean seated on a Lotus blossom. It came to be the symbol of Upper Egypt in the south, while the Papyrus plant symbolized Lower Egypt in the North. Often the Lotus blossom and Papyrus stalk were shown twined together, a design motif that symbolized the unification of the two lands.
